Bustamante has been stellar in the nets for the Lady Lions, boasting 21 saves in three matches for a .875% saves average. She has led her team to two program first victories against San Diego Christian College and Whittier College.

Off the pitch Bustamante has exemplified the NAIA core value of servant leadership as she has introduced Soka Athletics to a community outreach opportunity with AYSO's VIP Coaching program, where she has been coaching for the last few years. She has been working all summer to organize upcoming opportunities for our Soka Student-Athletes to volunteer within the program, and has been diligently working to coordinate schedules and trainings with Soka Athletics.

"As a member of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Bustamante has always brought wonderful ideas to the group," said Baldaray. " Most recently, Ashley has taken the lead in organizing and training our Soka Lions for this incredible opportunity to work with the athletes who participate in the AYSO VIP program. She has also already organized and scheduled our first VIP game on Sept. 28, 2019 where the VIP athletes will accompany our Lions at walk-out of the soccer matches. Bustamante's initiative and leadership, combined with her stellar performances in the goal for the women's soccer team is why we have selected her as one of August's Lions of the Month."
