BOULDER CITY, NV- The Soka University Lions finished second at the California Pacific Conference Golf Championships hosted by Soka University at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, NV, April 16-19, 2023.
The Lions shots a three-day combined team total of 1153 (+289), shooting 376 on day one, 377 in the second round, and 400 on the final day of competition.
Kalen Yamamoto led Soka, finishing 9
th overall out of the 24-competitor field, shooting a 270 for the three days (85, 84, 101).
Linnea Yamamoto finished 11
th overall, with a three-day total of 282 (90,93,99), while
Savanna Smith tied for 12
th, shooting 292 (104, 98, 90), and
Hina Ebata finished 16
th overall, shooting a combined 309 (97, 102, 110).
Soka placed second behind Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, who combined for a total team score of 925 (+61). The Lions' second-place finish is the highest in program history.
"We are super proud of our team for their efforts and for finishing off a string of very competitive days," said Head Coach
Nancy Mockett. "We played very steady, but always have a lot to learn from our time on the course. We look forward to our fall season!"
The California Pacific Conference also announced its 2023 All-Academic Teams for men's and women's golf. The two teams, made up of student-athletes in each sport, are selected from a list of nominations made by each of the conference institutions based on the following criteria:
*Sophomore standing or above
*One full academic year of residence at the nominating institution
*Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50
