2016-2017 Season
Received the Men's Cross Country Most Outstanding Runner award, Daktronic Scholar Athlete, and Soka Scholar Athlete awards at the annual Soka Athletic Banquet...earned Cross Country First Team All Cal Pac Conference... placed 2nd at the Cal Pac Conference Championship race just missing the first place spot by eight seconds... finished 3rd at the Biola Innovational (24:26.1), 2nd at the Aztec XC Invite 4k (20:54.8), 13th at the 42nd Annual Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational, and 5th at the Cal State San Marcos Cougar Challenge... qualified for NAIA XC National Championships where he placed 45th and finished with a final time of 25:31.7... did not compete during the 2017 track & field season as he was completing his semester abroad. Â
2015-2016 Season
Received the Men's Cross Country Most Outstanding Runner award, Men's Track & Field Most Outstanding award, SUA Scholar Athlete recipient, and Soka University Male Athlete of the Year award at the Soka Athletics Banquet... During the Cross Country Season Evans placed 15th at the Pomona-Pitzer XC Invite with a time of 25:57.1 for his 8K run...placed 8th at the San Diego State Aztec Invite with an 8K time of 27.18.9... placed 4th overall in the 8K Â with a time of 25:53 at the CSUSM Cougar Challenge...finished 1st at the Cal Pac Conference Championships...earned the automatic bid to NAIA National Championships... received Cal Pac Conference First Team All-Conference honors...earned Cal Pac Runner of the Month for the month of October...earned NAIA All- American honors for Cross Country for his 27th place finish at the National Championship competition with a time of 25:11.6 which was also a new PR for Evans... first Cross Country runner in program history to earn All-American honors... ran the 1000m, 1500m, mile run, 3000m 5000m and the 10,000m races for the Lions... hit the A standard in the mile race at the Westmont College Invitational with a Soka Best time of 4:17.74 while punching his ticket to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships... ran his Soka best time in the 1000m race with a time of 2:33.72...placed 7th in the mile run prelims at NAIA Indoor Nationals earning a spot int he finals where he placed 9th with a time of 4:23.44 missing out on All-American honors by one place...placed 19th at the Occidental Distance Carnival in the 5000m (14.35.91)Â earning the qualifying time for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships...also qualified for the Outdoor Championships in the 1500m after crossing the finish line at the 3:55.34 minute mark at the SDSU Aztec Invite...competed in the 5000m race at the Outdoor National Championships where he placed 8th overall and earned NAIA All-American honors.
2014-2015 Season
Jack was a National qualifier for the Lions’ cross country team having one of the best finishes in a national competition for a first-year Soka runner... He competed in both 1500, the mile, the 3000m and the 5000m races, barely missing the national qualifying standard during the outdoor track season... He was named the Men's 2014-2015 XC Most Outstanding Runner at the annual Soka Athletics Banquet...Evans was a member of the SUA Student Athlete Advisory Committee as the Cross Country and Track & Field representative. Â
High School
Evans attended Skyline High School and ran for the cross country and track teams in Salt Lake City, Utah... Jack swam and played soccer prior to deciding to focus on his running for the remainder of his high school career... Evans took second place in state in the 3200m his fourth year... his state medley relay team during his 2012 season also placed second (with the first placed team finishing .01s ahead of his team)... He was awarded Academic All-State in his 2012 season in both cross country and track... Evans was an IB graduate and an AP scholar with Distinction.
Personal
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah...moved to New York for one year prior to returning to Salt Lake...parents Dave and Jill Evans...one sibling; sister, Katie, who Jack has deemed his hero...also considered attending Emory University, Whitman College and Colorado College before committing to the Lions...Jack plans to double concentrate in Humanities and International Studies while at SUA... he also speaks Spanish and Indo-Malay, while studying Chinese at Soka...in his spare time he likes to play guitar and is in a band with fellow SUA students... aside from running he also enjoys writing fiction and going camping.Â
