ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka University Lions dropped their match against the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Lions' Den Soccer Stadium.
The Firebirds got on the scoreboard early, scoring two goals in the 11
th and 16
th minutes of the match.
Soka's
Jackie Osuna responded, netting her first career goal for the Lions at the 47:28 minute mark. Osuna blasted her shot into the goal after intercepting a Firebird's pass to put her side onto the scoreboard.
The Firebirds continued to press, scoring two more goals in the 52
nd and 81
st minutes, respectively, bringing the final score to 4-1.
"It was a very disappointing loss today despite the multiple great moments we had in the game," said Head Coach
Wendy Espejel. "It is always a positive having a player score their first season goal. We will use this game as a learning opportunity going into two tough games in a final push to earn a spot in the conference tournament."
The Lions will travel on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, to face the Mariners of Marymount California University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
