MESA, AZ- The Lions were unable to find the back of the net on Saturday afternoon at Bell Bank Park, falling to the Park University-Gilbert Buccaneers 2-0.
Soka's
Araceli Soto-Garcia led her side taking three shots on the day, while
Abby Stallworth and
Kaitlyn Sagastume had two shots on goal, and
Roxana Ortiz had one look on frame giving the Lions eight shots on the day. Despite valiant attempts from Soka's attack, the Lions' were unable to capitalize on their chances.
The Buccaneers scored 15 minutes into the match and then netted an insurance goal in the 51st minute of play.
"We went into today's game with a set game plan and saw lots of the ball in both halves," said Head Coach
Wendy Espejel. "Unfortunately, we did not finish the opportunities we created. On a positive note, how we played as a team on the ball is worth acknowledging."
Next, the Lions will return home to host the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds in their final home match of the regular season on Saturday, October 29, 2022. The Lions will honor their four seniors,
Araceli Soto-Garcia,
Sasha Brafman,
Roxana Ortiz, and
Micaela Lafrenz. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
