ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka University men's soccer program opened up its 2022 campaign with a 1-1 draw against the Hawks of San Diego Christian College on Thursday evening.
In the tenth minute of play, the Lions' winger
Kaulin Huss tallied his first career goal for Soka. The goal originated from a deceptively bent service down the right flank from junior outside back
Bryan Palpallatoc, which found
Ivan Acosta in space behind the Hawks' back line. Acosta sent his cross back-post towards a sliding Huss, who finished first-time, placing his shot low and into the goal.
Soka's early lead was short-lived, as the Hawks netted the equalizer one minute later. San Diego Christian's Gael Ruiz served a driven cross into the 18-yard box, connecting with Jesus Garcia. Garcia turned first-time and converted his chance to level the score.
The two sides created end-to-end action and dangerous scoring opportunities throughout the remainder of the match, but neither team was able to convert their chances and ended the game tied 1-1.
"The team gave their best efforts tonight," said Head Coach
Shawn Beyer. "Coach Bryan and I were happy with their first performance of the season."Â
The Lions return to action on Sunday, Aug. 21, when they host (18) Vanguard University. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
