CARLSBAD, CA- The Soka University Lions wrapped up their 2023 season on Saturday evening, playing their final Cal Pac Conference match against the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds where they dropped their last game 4-2.
The Lions were the first to get on the scoreboard after earning a penalty kick in the 22
nd minute, and Soka's
Cienna Irwin stepped to the spot. Irwin calmly placed the ball on the circle, maintained her poise and focus, and buried her shot into the corner of the goal to give her side the early lead.
Three minutes later, the Lions converted their second goal when
Sabrina Benjamin blasted her shot from distance off of an assist from
Kamry Aragon bringing the score to 2-0.
However, the Firebirds remained relentless and went on to tally four goals, scoring in the 39
th, 44
th, 63
rd, and 87
th minutes of play to bring the final score to 4-2. Â
Soka finished eighth overall in the Cal Pac Conference with a record of 3-5-3 and ended the season with an overall record of 5-9-3.
