RIVERSIDE, CA- The Soka University Lions tied the La Sierra University Golden Eagles 1-1 in their Cal Pac Conference matchup on Thursday evening at the La Sierra University Turf.
The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard early, scoring seven minutes into play. They maintained their lead until the 78
th minute when Soka's
Emely Yepez netted the equalizer. Yepez found herself on the ball 25 yards out from goal, and blasted her shot high over La Sierra's goalkeeper's head and into the back post.
"We were the dominant team today, and a tie was not the result we were looking for," said Head Coach
Wendy Espejel. "We had numerous opportunities in front of goal, but we need to put those opportunities away to compete with the top teams in the conference."Â
The Lions are now 4-6-2 overall and 2-2-2 in Cal Pac Conference play. Next, Soka will travel to Irvine, California, to face the Westcliff University Warriors. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the OC Great Park Field #11.
