ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka Lions 2023 season came to a close Saturday night after they dropped the Cal Pac Conference Tournament opening round quarter-final match against Park University- Gilbert 1-0 despite outshooting the Buccaneers 18-6.
The Buccaneers scored the lone goal of the match thirteen minutes into play. Despite Soka's possession rate and crafty combination play throughout the duration of the game, they were unable to tally the equalizer.
"We were very good in many areas of the game tonight; however, we failed to convert our chances," said Head Coach
Shawn Beyer. "Dominating possession, crosses, and shots, we didn't convert, and that was the difference. Our seniors were solid and leave Soka, having been a part of one of the best, if not the best, teams in the program's history. The season was a huge success with qualifying and hosting the playoff game. The team improved greatly over the last three months. We want to thank all of the fans that came out tonight. They were amazing, and they helped make a special occasion."
Soka finished the season 9-7-1 and 8-4-0 in Cal Pac Conference play, producing the second-best overall record in program history.
