SANTA CLARITA, CA- The Soka women's soccer team was unable to push past The Master's University on Saturday evening, dropping the match 2-0, and bringing their overall record to 1-2.
The two teams remained scoreless until the 51st minute when the Mustangs' Holly McRitchie tallied the first goal of the game. McRitchie scored after she stole a pass just outside the box in the Lions' defensive third, dribbled inside the box, and fired a shot to the back right of the net past a diving Mackinzie Stenstrom to take the 1-0 lead.
Then, in the 81st minute, The Masters' Harmony Rohde received a pass from her teammate, dribbled into the box, and placed her shot high into the back right of Soka's net.
"I am very proud of the effort and consistency of the team," said Head Coach Wendy Espejel. "We went in with a game plan and executed it throughout the first half. A few factors kicked in, and we were unable to sustain our plan in a few moments of the second half."
Up next, Soka returns home to the Lions Den Soccer Stadium to host the University of Laverne Leopards on Friday, September 1, 2023. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
NOTES: Soka's Stenstrom made two saves on the day… the Lions were outshot 14-4… Soka's Abby Stallworth, Alex Bershtein, Nicole Salazar, and Samantha Barrera each had one shot during the game.
