ANGWIN, CA- The Soka University Lions finished four goals to give them their second Cal Pac Conference win of the season against Pacific Union College on Friday afternoon in Angwin, CA.
Soka netted two goals per half, with four different Lions tallying points on the day. The first goal was scored 16 minutes into play when
Luis Barraza dribbled the ball to the left of the penalty spot to draw the keeper to the near post. Seeing the open goal, he bent his shot back post to give the Lions the early lead.
Mateus Seiki Rosa converted Soka's second goal from a crafty solo run at the Pioneers' defense in the 25th minute. Rosa's goal is his third of the season, putting him tied for the lead in goals for the Lions and second overall on the team in total points with seven.
The Lions scored their third goal three minutes into the second half. The goal stemmed from a pass by
JP Dufour. Dufour connected with
Rudy Garcia, who placed his shot past Pacific Union's goalkeeper for his second goal of the season.
After earning an assist, Dufour was hungry for a goal of his own. In the 69
th minute of play, his individual effort on the ball to create space allowed him to blast his shot into the net to give the Lions their fourth and final goal. Dufour earned his third goal of the season leaving him tied with Rosa and leading Soka in points with eight.
Up next, the Lions remain on the road, heading to Vallejo, CA, to face the Keelhaulers of Cal Maritime in their fourth Cal Pac Conference matchup of the season. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2023.
