REDDING, Calif. – The Soka University Lions split their matches on the road falling to the Merced Bobcats, 5-1, on Friday evening, and finishing the weekend with a 2-1 victory over the Simpson Red Hawks on Sunday afternoon. The Lions improved to 3-1-1 in Cal Pac play and 4-8-1 overall.
VS. UC MERCED
The Lions gave up three goals in the first half but held off the Bobcats offense well into the second half. The Bobcats would score again in the 81st minute, but the Lions would counter the goal at the 83rd minute, avoiding the shutout.
Diego Barba landed his first goal of the season to put the Lions on the board.
VS. SIMPSON
The Lions gave up an early goal the Red Hawks at the 3rd minute. Soka would take seven shots in the next 30 minutes to try and level the game.
Kenneth Ugalde would finally find the net at the 38th minute on an assist from
Mateus Seiki Rosa.
Soka went into the second half looking to score quickly and take the lead, taking five shots in ten minutes. The fifth shot, taken by
Sam Dagg, would find the net at the 56th minute.
JP Dufour is credited with the assist on Dagg's goal.
The Lions head into the final stretch of the regular season this week. They will face Westcliff University on Thursday, October 24th and Providence Christian on Saturday, October 26th.
