Lions Fall to Park Gilbert, 2-0

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – The Soka University Lions fell to the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers on Saturday morning at the Lions' Den Soccer Stadium. The loss brings the Lions to a 1-4 overall record with two more matches before Cal Pac play.

Both teams applied pressure in the first half and entered the second 45 minutes of play tied 0-0. Park Gilbert opened the second half taking a shot on frame within a minute of play and registered a goal in the 54th minute. Luca Aiello gave the Lions their best look at the 56th minute, but the Buccaneers goalie was able to notch the save. The Lions continued to hold the Buccaneers attack at bay, but eventually Park Gilbert used an opportunity deep in Lion territory to seal the match at the 81st minute.

" We are frustrated with the result, and we are finding it difficult to create opportunities to score," said head coach Shawn Beyer. "We feel for the boys because they train hard all week and are unable to get the result that we want. There were some good moments for sure. But the bottom line is we need to do better on the attacking side of the game while eliminating the mistakes that led to the opponents goals. All we can do now is continue to train as best we can, come with a good attitude and prepare for Wednesdays match."

Next up, the Lions will host Stanton University of September 11, with kick off set for 5:00 p.m.
