RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Soka University dropped a close 1–0 decision to La Sierra University on Tuesday evening after a late second-half goal broke a scoreless match. The Lions are now 4-7-1 overall and 4-5 in GSAC play.
La Sierra's Carlos Leon scored in the 87th minute off an assist from Vinicius Goncalves, marking the only goal of the contest.
The Lions battled through a tough defensive first half, managing to generate six shots in the second frame after being held without an attempt in the opening 45 minutes.
Eric Aparicio made four key saves to keep Soka level until the closing moments, while
Armando Carrera,
Rudy Garcia, and
Hope Suka each placed efforts on target.
Soka earned five corner kicks and held La Sierra to just two shots in the second half but couldn't find the equalizer before the final whistle.
The Lions now look ahead to their next GSAC matchup at home against The Master's University on Saturday, October 18.
