SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — The Soka University women's soccer team took The Master's University to overtime before falling 3–2 on a late penalty kick Saturday afternoon.
Soka struck first in the 20th minute when
Sienna Manns put the Lions on the board with her second goal of the season. The Master's equalized before halftime through Breanna Fajardo, assisted by Mia Thompson, who later set up another score by Jane Hato in the 48th minute to give the Mustangs a 2–1 lead.
Refusing to back down, Soka leveled the match in the 57th minute when
Sienna Gomez finished a setup from Manns, knotting the score at 2–2 and forcing extra time.
In the second overtime period, The Master's earned a penalty kick, and Kegan Brunnemann converted in the 93rd minute to clinch the win.
The hosts outshot Soka 34–8 (17–5 on goal), but goalkeeper
Mackinzie Stenstrom turned in a standout performance with 14 saves, keeping the Lions in contention throughout.
