ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - Soka University of America dropped a 3–1 decision to California Lutheran University on Saturday, August 30, in a competitive non-conference matchup.
Cal Lutheran struck first in the 10th minute when Alejandro Loza scored off a pass from Jackson Smart. The Lions responded quickly. In the 20th minute, Rudy Garcia equalized with a well-placed finish, assisted by Diego Barba, bringing the score level at 1–1.
Early in the second half, Cal Lutheran regained the advantage when Danny Rodriguez found the net in the 48th minute. The visitors added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute through Owen Niu.
Soka produced 10 shots, including three on target, and held a 6–3 edge in corner kicks, creating consistent opportunities throughout the contest. Goalkeeper Eric Aparicio recorded two saves in the effort.
