SANTA CLARITA, Calif. — Goalkeeper
Lillian Dukes turned in a five-save performance, but the Soka University women's soccer team was edged 1–0 by conference-leading The Master's on Saturday.
The lone goal came in the 45th minute, when Breanna Fajardo converted an assist from Autumn Heeb just before the halftime whistle. Dukes had kept the hosts off the board to that point, denying Fajardo twice and stopping efforts from Maddy Traylor and Heeb during a first half in which The Master's registered eight shots.
Soka flipped the pressure after the break, out-shooting The Master's 5–3 in the second half. Valentina Ibañez forced two saves out of Master's goalkeeper Katie Snow, including one in the final minute, while
Jonalynn Valles also tested her in the 80th minute.
The Lions were accurate with their opportunities, putting five of their seven shots on frame and drawing five saves from Snow. The two sides split corner kicks 3–3, with
Sabrina Benjamin taking all three for Soka.
Soka moved to 5-5-3 overall and 4-4-1 in GSAC play.
