ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — The Soka University women's soccer team fell 3–1 to The College of Idaho on Wednesday evening at Soka University, unable to overcome a quick two-goal deficit in the opening 13 minutes.
College of Idaho struck first, taking a 1–0 lead in the 9th minute when Alondra Osuna found the back of the net, assisted by Rylee Russell. The Yotes doubled their advantage in the 13th minute when Morgan Nicoletti converted off a feed from Osuna, putting the Lions in an early 2–0 hole.
Soka answered in the second half, cutting the deficit to 2–1 in the 57th minute when Sabrina Benjamin converted a pass from Arlene Yepez. College of Idaho closed out the scoring in the 81st minute with a goal from Abbi Roubidoux.
The Yotes outshot the Lions 15–6, including 8 on target, but Soka controlled the corner kick battle, winning 8–5. Goalkeepers Jazlynn Camacho and Lillian Dukes combined for 5 saves to keep the Lions within reach in the second half.
