ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Aidan Sandoval scored in the 89th minute to give the Soka University men's soccer team a 3–2 win over Life Pacific on Saturday at Soka University, in the Lions' second Great Southwest Athletic Conference (GSAC) match of the season.
Rudy Garcia put Soka in front with a pair of goals 52 seconds apart midway through the first half. Garcia opened the scoring in the 23rd minute off an assist from Diego Barba, then doubled the lead in the 24th minute with help from Hope Suka to make it 2–0.
Life Pacific pushed back in the second half, pulling within one in the 69th minute when Jose Alvarez converted an assist from Josue Sanchez. Sanchez then leveled the match at 2–2 in the 74th minute, assisted by Kabiso Gedeon.
Playing a man down over the closing stretch after a red card in the 78th minute, Soka found the winner with just over a minute to play, as David Olivas set up Sandoval for the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute.
Goalkeeper Jacob Warren was outstanding in net for the Lions, making 6 saves, including 5 in the first half, as Life Pacific finished with 22 shots to Soka's 8. Soka was efficient with its opportunities, putting 5 of its 8 shots on goal and converting three of them, while Life Pacific goalkeeper Carlos Rodriguez made 2 saves.
