ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Carly Becerra scored in the closing seconds of the first half to put the Soka University women's soccer team ahead, but Park-Gilbert answered with two second-half goals to upset Soka on Saturday at The Den.
Soka controlled the opening 45 minutes, out-shooting Park-Gilbert 7–3, with Anahi Aranda and Elana Kawai both testing Park-Gilbert goalkeeper Journey Morimoto. The pressure paid off in the 45th minute when Becerra found the net to send the Lions into the break with a 1–0 lead.
The Lions came out firing after halftime, forcing three saves out of Morimoto in the opening eight minutes on efforts from Becerra and Sabrina Benjamin. Park-Gilbert equalized in the 55th minute when Kalei Ganotisi converted an assist from Alexandria Bugal, then took the lead in the 63rd minute on a goal from Yadira Bernal.
Soka kept pressing to the final whistle, finishing with a 15–7 edge in shots and a 7–4 advantage in shots on goal. Benjamin led the Lions with three shots, two on goal, while Becerra put both of her attempts on frame. Morimoto made 6 saves for Park-Gilbert, and Soka goalkeeper Jazlynn Camacho finished with 2.
Soka moved to 4-3-3 overall and 3-2-1 in GSAC play.
