2015-2016 Season
Barbiero's presence in the center of the field for the Lions was crucial to the Lions success in 2015...Soka utilized his simplicity on the ball along with his tactical vision to create scoring opportunities by splitting the opponents defensive line... Barbiero played in 16 matches, and started in 15...scored 2 goals...2 assists...took 13 shots on the season...eanred Daktronic Scholar Athletes recognition...earned Soka Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award...  in the spring of 2016 Matteo studied abroad in Strasbourg, France.

2014-2015 Season
Barbeiro played in seventeen of the Lions’ eighteen games, starting in fifteen...he scored two goals and had two assists on the season giving him a total of six points...he took twenty-two shots on goal, with a season best of six shots against Cal Tech...Season highs include two goals (one goal Cal Tech, on Sept.3 and one  goal against Pacific Union on Oct. 5.) ... two assists (Aug.23 San Diego Christian and Aug. 30 Bethesda University)...Matteo received the 2014 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year award at SUA's annual athletics banquet as well as the 2014 Soka Merit Scholarship.

2013-2014 Season
In his first season with the Lions, Barbiero played in all seventeen of their matches while getting to start in fifteen…he scored two goals and had one assist while taking a total of eleven shots on the season...  His season high came when the Lions faced Pacific Union on Aug. 29 where he totaled three points by scoring one goal and assisting another in SUA's 7-0 win over the Pioneers...earned Cal Pac Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his play on Oct. 21...when not playing soccer Matteo was actively involved in the Soka University Improv. Club.

High School
A 2013 graduate from Liceo Classico "Antonio Pigafetta"...was a member of his school's boys soccer team.

Born in Vincenza, Italy...parents Giuseppe Barbiero and Gabriela Sinigaglia...one sibling, brother, Roberto Barbiero...concentrating in Humanities while at SUA...studying French...also speaks Spanish and Italian.
