RIVERSIDE, CA- The Soka University Lady Lions defeated the La Sierra Golden Eagles 2-0 on Thursday night in Riverside, CA, bringing their overall record to 5-5, and 3-2 in California Pacific Conference play.
The two sides played to a scoreless 53 minutes, until Soka's
Natalia Gilbert capitalized on her opportunity in front of the Golden Eagles' goal. Soka's
Jenna Jenson served a deep corner kick into the box, and Gilbert crashed the goal mouth, tapped her shot into the goal first-time, and put the Lady Lions onto the scoreboard with over thirty minutes left to play.
Soka's defense, led by
Ashley Bustamante,
Sydney Marin,
Kaitlyn Haibel,
Rhea Hartwell and
Caroline Goodwill denied the Golden Eagles of multiple opportunities to equalize, and the Lady Lions scored an insurance goal in the 80
th minute to ensure their team the three points at the end of the night.Â
Soka's second goal developed after the Lady Lions were awarded a free kick from forty yards out. Haibel took the free kick, drove her shot towards frame, and pinged it off of the crossbar. The ricocheted shot redirected straight to
Jordan Pritzl, who framed the goal, and buried her shot into the left side netting for the 2-0 victory.
Up next, the Lady Lions will take a brief eight day hiatus from Cal Pac Conference play, and will return home to host Marymount University on Saturday, Oct.13. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
