Lady Lions Blanked by Redhawks 4-0

ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka University Lady Lions were defeated 4-0 by the Benedictine University at Mesa Redhawks on Saturday afternoon at the Lion's Den Soccer Stadium.

The Redhawks scored early, as they capitalized on their opportunity in the third minute of the match after the Lady Lions were unable to get the ball cleared out of the box.  Benedictine's Carlie Watson got her foot to the ball, finished her shot low, and into the right corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead.

Soka's Natalia Gilbert looked to find the equalizer in the tenth minute, and blasted her shot on frame, but the Redhawks goalkeeper Tiana Pretzer came up with the diving save.

With twelve minutes left in the first-half, Benedictine's Alysa Castillo netted the Redhawks' second goal, after she followed up on her initial shot, which was blocked by Soka's Ashley Bustamante. Castillo placed her shot into the left side of the goal for the 2-0 lead at the end of the first-half.

Ten minutes into the second period, Redhawks' striker Jackie Igulu intercepted a missed-clearance from Soka, collected the ball, and finished her shot low and into the near post past an outstretched Bustamante.

Benedictine's America Sanchez scored the Redhawks' fourth goal in the 66th minute. Sanchez got her head onto a mid-goal set-piece service from Bella Glabin, bringing the final score to 4-0.
