REDDING, CA- The Soka University Women's Soccer team defeated the Red Hawks of Simpson University 3-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Lions got on the scoreboard early after first-year striker Araceli Soto-Garcia broke free from the Red Hawks' defense, and served a driven cross back post to fellow first-year Roxana Ortiz in the fourth minute of the match. Ortiz finished her chance first-time to provide Soka with the early 1-0 lead.

Right before the conclusion of the first-half, senior striker Jordan Pritzl netted Soka's second goal of the game off on assist from first-year Sasha Brafman.

Soka's Soto tallied the Lions' third and final goal in the 53^rd minute, putting the game out of reach for the Red Hawks, despite Simpson's Carolina Oropeza scoring in the 73^rd minute.

Up next, the Lions will head to UC Merced to face the Bobcats on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
 
 


NOTES: This is the tenth meeting between Soka and Simpson… the Lions are now 10-0 against the Red Hawks… Soka outshot Simpson 18-7… Soka's Camryn Finnell and Ashley Bustamante combined for three saves on the day... Soka is now 7-5 overall and 2-3 in California Pacific Conference play.
