Lady Lions Nudged Out By Golden Eagles 3-1

ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka University Lady Lions were defeated by the La Sierra University Golden Eagles 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Lion's Den Soccer Stadium.

La Sierra's Alyssa Felix tallied the Golden Eagles' first two goals in the 10th and 14th minutes of the match. Both goals originated from Felix receiving passes that were slipped behind Soka's defense. Felix's first shot was finished low, and into the back post, while her second goal was finish high, and into the upper corner of the goal.

Soka's junior central defender Kaitlyn Haibel answered back in the 32nd minute, after she got on the end of a corner kick served into the mix by sophomore defender Renee Parado. Haibel took a touch to her left, and blasted her shot low, into the corner of the near post, bringing the score to 2-1.

Coming out slow after half time, the Lions conceded their third goal of the game in the 49th minute. La Sierra's Andrea Sida was left unmarked inside the box, and framed a well-struck shot from Mariah Anaya.  Soka's Ashley Bustamante turned away Anaya's shot from goal, but Sida was there to frame the goal. She hit her rebound first time, and into the net, bringing the final score to 3-1 despite Soka creating multiple scoring opportunities throughout the remainder of the game.

"We created a lot of opportunities but it just didn't go our way this time," said Head Coach David McLeish. "We played with good intensity in the second half against a strong La Sierra team but we came up two goals short."

Up next, the Lady Lions will host the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
