Lions Slip Against Mariners, 2-1

ALISO VIEJO, CA-  The Lions fell to the Mariners of Marymount California University 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Lions' Den Soccer Stadium.

The two sides remained deadlocked until the Mariners' Megan Purkey scored off a cross from Marissa Brees with fifteen seconds left in the first half of play.

With 10 minutes left in the match, Marymount struck again. Briana Flores converted her shot to give her side the 2-0 lead. However, the Lions' quickly responded after Jenna Jenson connected her pass to Abby Hiatt inside the 18-yard box. Hiatt blasted her shot high and into the near post, netting her first career goal for Soka.

"The team came out strong today," said Head Coach Wendy Espejel. "We had some great chances but allowed Marymount to capitalize on a couple of mistakes on our end. Overall, it was great to see another first-year get a goal."

Up next, the Lions travel to Riverside, CA, to face the La Sierra University Golden Eagles. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
