RIVERSIDE, CA- The Soka University Lions defeated the La Sierra Golden Eagles 1-0 after Kamry Aragon converted her penalty kick in the 99th minute.
The two sides remained level throughout regulation play. It wasn't until Soka's Araceli Soto-Garcia slotted her pass through La Sierra's backline to Kamry Aragon in the 99th minute that the Lions were able to break the deadlock. Aragon collected Soto-Garcia's pass in stride and was immediately fouled by the Golden Eagles defender inside the box to earn her side a chance from the penalty spot. Aragon confidently stepped up and converted her chance high to give the Lions their first Cal Pac Conference South-Pod victory of the 2021 season.
"We are extremely proud of the efforts that went out today," said Head Coach Wendy Espejel. "We found a great rhythm early in the game and sustained it throughout the entire match. We showcased one of our top performances all season."
The Lions return home on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, to host the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
Game Notes: Soka's Ashley Bustamante made seven total saves on the day, earning her second shutout of the season.
