Lions Soar in 3-1 Victory Over the Eagles

INCLINE VILLAGE, NV- The Soka University Lions defeated the Eagles of Sierra Nevada College 3-1 on Friday afternoon at the Tahoe Vista Soccer Complex.

The Lions got on the scoreboard early after Gera De La Torre served in a left-footed corner kick in the 13th minute of play. De La Torre's cross found Chase Buchert's run inside the box. Buchert skied over his defender and headed his shot into the Upper-V to give the Lions the early 1-0 lead. This was Buchert's first goal of the 2021 season and third career goal.

Just before the first half concluded, Soka's Luis Barraza netted his first career goal off of an assist from Ivan Acosta, who tallied his first career assist.

In the 53rd minute, Dylan Fox sent his cross into the box behind the defense. The cross found De La Torre in stride, who tapped his shot into the goal giving the Lions the 3-0 advantage. De La Torre's goal was his seventh goal of the season, bringing him to 19 total points in five games.

With less than ten minutes remaining in regulation play, Sierra Nevada's Oswaldo Lopez converted his chance to bring the final score to 3-1.

The Lions win brings Soka's overall record to 4-3, and 2-0 in Cal Pac Conference play.
