ANGWIN, CA- The Soka Lions fell to the Pacific Union Pioneers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Angwin, California.
The Pioneers caught the Lions off guard, scoring forty seconds into the match. However, Soka quickly responded to level the score in the ninth minute of play. The goal evolved from
Bryan Palpallatoc's bending service into the 18-yard box to
Gera De La Torre. De La Torre collected the ball and drove his shot into the back post leveling the score.
The two sides remained deadlocked until a penalty kick was called for the Pioneers in the 64th minute. Daniel Castro stepped up to the spot, converted his chance, and lifted Pacific Union to a final score of to 2-1.
"Once again, our team was fantastic and really professional in their approach this weekend," said Head Coach
Shawn Beyer. "It's not easy as a student-athlete being away from home for four days and still performing at a high level athletically, but that is exactly what our team did. It was a solid performance at Sierra Nevada and a little unfortunate at Pacific Union. Still, we will move forward with the same continued determination that has given us a strong start to our season."
The Lions return home to host Marymount California University on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021. Kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m.
