Lions Stifle Buccaneers, 4-0

ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka Lions defeated the Buccaneers of Park University Gilbert 4-0 on Friday evening at the Lions' Den Soccer Stadium.

The Lions got on the scoreboard early after Araceli Soto-Garcia scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart. Soto-Garcia's first goal stemmed from a cross by Roxana Ortiz, while her second goal came from a threaded pass from Jackie Osuna.

Iris Cox netted her first goal of the 2021 season in the 64th minute off of Taylor Hampton's service, giving the Lions the 3-0 advantage. Roxana Ortiz converted the Lions' fourth and final goal five minutes later after Renee Parado served a cross mid-goal towards Soto-Garcia. Soto-Garcia dummied the pass to Ortiz, who finished her shot first-time, bringing the final score to 4-0.

"Once again, this team has come together to put together a great performance," said head coach Wendy Espejel. "Every player that stepped foot on the pitch had a major impact on our success tonight. It is truly great to see the trust and confidence of this team growing as each game goes on."

Up next, the Lions host the University of Saint Katherine on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
