Lions Draw with Firebirds 1-1

ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka Lions posted their third straight tie of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Lions' DEn Soccer Stadium, drawing with the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds 1-1 after 110 minutes of play.

The Firebirds scored first in the 49th minute, but the Lions remained persistent, netting the equalizer twenty minutes later. The Lions' goal evolved after Mikey Venezia dropped his pass back to Bryan Palpallatoc. Palpallatoc took a touch and whipped his cross towards the back post to Jared Chavez. Chavez timed his run perfectly and headed his shot into the upper right corner to level the score at one apiece.

Despite the Lions creating multiple chances, the two teams remained deadlocked after 90 minutes of regulation play and two ten-minute overtime periods.

"The team put forth a valiant effort but again could not get the final pass and shot right when needed," said Head Coach Shawn Beyer. "We created enough opportunities to win but lacked the precision in front of goal. Credit goes to the University of Saint Katherine's keeper as he made some quality saves. We now move on with two important matches next weekend with all to play for."

The Lions will travel on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, to face the Mariners of Marymount California University. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
