Lions Fall to San Diego Christian Hawks, 2-1

ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Lions dropped their 2021 season home opener against San Diego Christian College after the Hawks converted two late second-half goals for the 2-1 win over Soka.

The Lions took the lead early in the first half after Sasha Brafman slipped her pass behind the Hawks' defense. Brafman's pass connected with Araceli Soto-Garcia, who slotted her shot past the Hawks' goalkeeper, Kassandra Ramirez, to give Soka the 1-0 advantage eight minutes into the game.

The Lions held their lead until the 80th minute when the Hawks' Ashlyn Edwards netted the equalizer. Three minutes later, San Diego Christian was awarded a penalty kick, and Devin Molina stepped up to the spot. Molina converted her shot low and into the left corner, just beyond the reach of Soka's goalkeeper Ashley Bustamante, giving the Hawks their first win of the season.

The Lions return to action on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, when they host Cal Tech at 11:30 a.m. For up-to-date NAIA women's soccer scores and statistics, please visit the NAIA's official statistics site.
