ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Lions were unable to find the back of the net in their 1-0 loss to the Caltech Beavers on Saturday afternoon at the Lions' Den Soccer Stadium.
The two sides remained scoreless for the first 44 minutes until the Beavers were awarded a penalty kick in the remaining seconds of the first half. Caltech's Schuyler Dick stepped up to the spot and slotted her shot high and right, netting the game-winning goal.
Despite Soka's best efforts to find the equalizer, outshooting the Beavers 16-10, the Lions could not convert their chances. Leading the Lions in shots was
Kamry Aragon, with four shots on the day.
Araceli Soto-Garcia,
Roxana Ortiz, and
Kimberly Kitani each generated two shots, respectively.
"It was a very tough loss against Caltech today," said Head Coach
Wendy Espejel. "The team fought hard and had some great combining pieces in possession. We missed a couple key opportunities to get us back in the game after going down, and we just could not find the equalizer. I am very proud of the players for competing until the last whistle. They showed great character in this game."
Soka returns to action on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, when they host Occidental College. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
