ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka University Lions defeated the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers 3-0 on Sunday evening at the Lions' Den Soccer Stadium, bringing their overall record to 3-6-1 and 2-2-1 in Cal Pac Conference play.
The Lions netted two goals in the first 25 minutes. The first goal stemmed from a pass by
Cienna Irwin to
Samantha Barrera. Barrera buried her chance and put her side on the scoreboard. The Lions tallied their second point off an own goal, giving Soka the 2-0 lead at halftime.
With ten minutes left in the match, Soka's
Alex Bershtein netted her second goal of the season and the Lions' third goal of the game, bringing the final score to 3-0.Â
"Proud of the team today and their ability to maintain focus into the second half," said Head Coach
Wendy Espejel. "Players coming off the bench were able to raise the level overall."Â
Next, the Lions will remain home to host Providence Christian College on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
