REDDING, Calif. – The Soka University Lions faced the UC Merced Bobcats on Friday evening, taking their first loss of Cal Pac play, 4-0. They finished the trip going 1-1 against the Simpson University Red Hawks bringing their Cal Pac record to 3-1-1 and their overall record to 8-3-1.
VS. UC MERCED
The Lions gave up two early goals to the Bobcats, in the 6
th minute and near the 8th minute of the match. Despite the early offensive pressure from the Bobcats, the Lions kept the Merced at bay for the remaining 37 minutes of the half. The Bobcats out shot the Lions 11-to-1 with four on frame.
The second half went much like the first, with UC Merced scoring within the first ten minutes, at the 53rd minute and 60th minute. Merced held the advantage out shooting the Lions 12-to-2 with seven shots on frame.
Mackinzie Stenstrom notched seven saves in goal for the Lions.
VS. SIMPSON
Both teams played reserved in the first 30 minutes with Simpson taking just one shot and the Lions only shot resulting in a goal.
Sienna Gomez landed one in the net on an assist from
Samantha Barrera at the 30th minute.
The Red Hawks came out in the second half trying to level the game, taking four shots and forcing two saves from
Riley Long. Simpson would tie the game at the 79th minute.
Long tallied three saves in the match.
