IRWINDALE, Calif. – The Soka University Lions closed out the regular season with a 4-0 win over Providence Christian College on Saturday afternoon. The Lions finish with a 9-4-1 record overall, and a 4-2-1 Cal Pac record to secure a spot in the Cal Pac Championship Tournament.
VS. WESTCLIFF
The Lions held off a strong Westcliff offense for 82 minutes before giving up a goal to the Warriors.
Riley Long made 6 saves while Soka's defense held off four attempts from the corners. The Lions took one shot on frame and had one chance from the corner but were unable to convert any of the opportunity.
VS. PROVIDENCE
The Lions came into the game looking to get on the scoreboard quickly and landed one in the net at the 18th minute on a goal from
Sabrina Benjamin. The Lions would extend the lead within the first five minutes of the second half on an own goal from the Seabeggars.
Kamry Aragon set up the play on a cross from the end line to the box.
Cienna Irwin connected with
Jonalynn Valles at the 80th minute to give the Lions a comfortable lead heading into the final ten minutes of the match.
Samantha Barrera sealed the game for Soka at the 86th minute.
Mallorie Barteau is credited with the assist on Barrera's goal.
"We felt the game was very comfortable for us which speaks volumes for the players," says Interim head coach
Liam Delury. "To go away from home and win 4-0 and control the game shows how far this group has come over the past few seasons. We now look forward to the Cal Pac tournament as the #3 seed."
