ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – The Soka Lions (0-1-0) opened their season against Life Pacific University falling 1-0 to the Warriors (1-0-0) on Saturday evening at the Lions' Den Soccer Stadium.
The Warriors struck fast getting on the board in the first two minutes of play. The Lions applied pressure on the Warrior defense taking six shots and five corners in the first half. They continued to take chances in the second half outshooting the Warriors 8-3 and taking four corners. Despite efforts from the Lions to equalize, the Warriors were able to maintain their 1-0 lead for the duration of the game.
"The team dominated possession and field position, created chances and showed some promising signs that we can accomplish our goals," said Head Coach
Shawn Beyer. "There are obvious aspects to our game we will improve on. For this match, we gave every player opportunity to show their levels and will continue to work day by day. This is just the beginning, and we will fine tune many things. We are not overly concerned with the result as much as we are building our fitness collectively and implementing what we have trained to this point. After 10 days we are pleased with where we are."
Up next, the Lions continue their 13-game home stand against Hope International University on Wednesday, August 21. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
