ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - The Soka University Lions dropped their contest against the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen on Sunday at the Lions' Den Soccer Stadium. The Lions overall record is 1-4 with three more matches before heading into Cal Pac play.
Cal Lutheran applied early pressure on the Lions defense taking 11 shots in the first half and landing two between the posts at the 23rd and 40th minutes.Â
The Lions entered the second half taking a shot on frame within the first two minutes but was blocked by a Kingsmen defender. Within in a 10 minute window both teams had combined for 8 shots (3 from Soka, 5 from Cal Lutheran). The Lions got on the board converting their fourth attempt at the 59th minute on a goal from Ivan Acosta, assisted by Luis Barraza.
"We moved the ball well at times, but not with the consistency that we're seeking," said head coach Shawn Beyer. "We need to further develop our play in the build up and in the final third. We did have some chances to score a few more goals today. Defensively we were good in certain moments but again the consistency is what we are after. Once again, we balanced playtime for majority of the squad. We have a full week of training that we will make the most of. The details are going to be important for us to reach our goals."
