PHOENIX, Calif. – The Soka University women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1–0 road victory over Park University Gilbert in GSAC play. The win improves the Lions record to 7-2-3 overall and 6-2 in conference.
After a tightly contested opening half that saw the Lions generate several corner kicks and shots from
Sabrina Benjamin and
Carly Becerra, Soka maintained composure under pressure, with goalkeeper
Mackinzie Stenstrom anchoring the defense and recording three saves on the day.
The breakthrough came in the 77th minute, when
Anahi Aranda drove a shot off the post, and Broome followed with a composed finish to net her first career goal and secure the win for the Lions. The play reflected Soka's continued offensive growth, with the team outshooting Park-Gilbert 6–3 on goal and holding a 6–1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lions' defensive unit, led by
Sienna Manns,
Elana Kawai, and
Keena Nakamura, closed out the match with discipline and composure to preserve the clean sheet.
Soka will head to Riverside to face off against La Sierra University on Tuesday, October 14 with kickoff set for 5:00 p,m, before returning home to face The Master's University on Saturday, October 18
th.
