IRVINE, Calif. — Soka University women's soccer dropped a tightly contested 1–0 decision to Hope International University on Thursday evening in GSAC play. The Lions are now 7-3-5 overall and 6-3-2 in conference.
The Lions held the Royals scoreless for over 80 minutes before Brandi Valdez netted the decisive goal in the 82nd minute, assisted by Kalia Lanoza.
Soka generated five total shots, including two on frame, and earned three corner kicks — all coming in the second half as the Lions pushed for an equalizer.
Mackinzie Stenstrom finished with two saves in goal, anchoring a defense that kept Hope International limited to seven total shots on the night.
Despite a strong final stretch and late attempts from
Mallorie Barteau and
Anahi Aranda, Soka was unable to find the back of the net before time expired.
