ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Soka University earned a historic result on Wednesday, September 24, defeating Hope International 2–0 at The Den. The victory marked the Lions' first win over the Royals in program history, a series that dates back to 2009. Soka is now 3-1 in GSAC play and 4-1-3 overall.
The Lions broke through in the 33rd minute when
Sienna Gomez scored her first goal of the season, assisted by
Sabrina Benjamin. Soka doubled its advantage in the 83rd minute as an own goal extended the lead to 2–0.
Soka finished with an 8–5 edge in shots and put three efforts on frame.
Mackinzie Stenstrom made two saves to record the clean sheet, while the Lions also tallied three corner kicks.
"The team had a fantastic game, came out confident and strong in the first half, and was able to carry that out into the second half to find another opportunity to attack that resulted in a goal," said head coach
