AZUSA, Calif. – Soka University earned a 2–1 victory at Life Pacific on Saturday, September 27, in Azusa.
After a scoreless first half, the Lions broke through in the 60th minute when
Samantha Barrera scored her first goal of the match, assisted by
Keena Nakamura. Barrera struck again in the 87th minute, finishing a setup from
Maria Acosta to extend the lead. Life Pacific answered less than a minute later, but Soka held strong the rest of the way to secure the win.
The Lions recorded nine shots, seven on target, while goalkeeper
Mackinzie Stenstrom collected three saves in the match. Soka also earned an 8–5 edge in corner kicks, applying steady pressure throughout the second half.
"Life gave us some challenging moments in this game, but our players responded in a tremendous way to secure the win," said head coach
Wendy Espejel. "Their ability to adapt to different moments in this game was key to their success. Their determination in the second half to finish their opportunities and to minimize opposing threats really shows they are growing in confidence this season."
