Lions Rally Late for 2–2 Draw Against Providence

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – The Soka University of America women's soccer team stormed back late to earn a 2–2 draw against the University of Providence (Mont.) on Tuesday, September 2.

Providence struck first in the 13th minute when Autumn Apana-Purcell scored, then doubled the lead with her second goal early in the second half. Despite trailing 2–0, the Lions controlled play throughout, outshooting the Argos 33–5 with 19 shots on target.

The breakthrough came in the 78th minute when Jonalynn Valles converted off an assist from Emely Yepez to cut the deficit in half. With constant pressure in the attacking third, Soka equalized in the 89th minute on a goal from Mallorie Barteau to complete the comeback.

Soka also held a 6–2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lions next match will be on Saturday, September 6, at Occidental College with kick off set for 6 p.m.
