ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – The Soka University men's volleyball team closed out the week with a home match against La Sierra on Tuesday and a road match at Hope International on Thursday. The Lions are now 1-15 overall and 0-11 in GSAC play.
La Sierra 3, Soka 0
The Lions fell at home in three sets, 25–23, 25–21, 25–18, but showed their most competitive volleyball across the first two sets.
Soka came out strong in the opening set, jumping to a 1–5 lead and building the advantage to 5–15 before the visitors began to chip away. The Lions held on as the set stayed close late, tying it at 22–22 before La Sierra closed on a 3–1 run. The second set followed a similar pattern with the Lions rallying from an early 6–1 deficit to tie it at 8–8, stayed competitive through the middle, and knotted it again at 17–17 before the visitors pulled away down the stretch.
Kamohoalii Chan led the offense with 11 kills and added one service ace.
Christian Obergfell contributed five kills,
Isaac Jeremia added five, and
Andres Chavez chipped in four kills and one ace.
Jacob Marquez directed the offense with 24 assists. At the net, Marquez added two block assists, while Chavez contributed three block assists and Tidwell added three as well. Obergfell chipped in two block assists.
Defensively, Obergfell led the team with six digs, followed by Marquez with five and Jeremia with three.
Hope International 3, Soka 0
The Lions dropped a road match at Hope International in straight sets, 25–9, 25–19, 25–13.
The first set Soka was held to just nine points and hit -.280 as a team. The Lions managed only three kills on 25 swings while committing ten attack errors. The second set showed some resilience, Soka rallied from a 7–1 deficit, at one point going on a run that cut the deficit before the hosts steadied. A late push from 24–19 saw the Lions score five straight, but Hope International had already clinched the set. The third set saw a punishing early stretch from the hosts that put the match out of reach.
Isaac Jeremia led the offense with six kills, and
Kamohoalii Chan added six as well, though Chan struggled on the attack, finishing at -.240 on 25 swings.
Corban Tidwell contributed two kills and a solo block.
Jacob Marquez ran the offense with 15 assists and added a service ace.
Christian Obergfell led the back row with eight digs, followed by Marquez with five and Chan with three.
