Soka Athletics Announces Promotion of Liam Delury as Women's Soccer Head Coach

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Soka University Athletics has announced the promotion of Liam Delury to Head Coach of the women's soccer program.

Soka Athletics expressed confidence in Delury's leadership, noting his role as an assistant coach in fostering the culture that has driven the program's success over the past three years, along with his commitment to student-athlete development and program excellence.

"Liam has a tremendous coaching background which will make for a seamless transition stepping into the role of head coach for our Soka women's soccer program," said Director of Athletics Mike Moore. "Liam is passionate about soccer, and we are confident he will continue to elevate the program and it's student athletes for years to come."

Delury stepped into the interim head coach role and guided the Lions to a 9-5-1 overall record, securing a California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) playoff berth. His leadership helped steady the program during its transition to the Great Southwest Athletic Conference (GSAC), positioning the team for continued success.

"I am incredibly honored and excited to step into the role of Head Coach for Soka Women's Soccer. This program has a strong foundation, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help lead it into its next chapter," said Liam Delury.

"I want to extend a sincere thank you to Wendy for her dedication, leadership, and the impact she has had on the program. Her commitment to the players and the culture she helped build have set a standard that I deeply respect, and I look forward to continuing that work."

Delury added, "I am truly excited about the group of student-athletes within the program and the potential that lies ahead. My focus will be on creating an environment that challenges players to grow, compete, and develop both on and off the field. I believe in building a strong, connected team culture while maintaining high standards in training, performance, and accountability. I am looking forward to getting started, building relationships, and representing Soka with pride"

Prior to joining Soka, Delury spent one year as a volunteer assistant coach at Loyola Marymount University before being elevated to second assistant coach during the 2021 season. He also coached with the men's soccer program at Marymount California University.

Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Delury has spent the past decade coaching club soccer in the South Bay, serving in leadership roles including Assistant Director of Coaching and Program Director. He currently serves as the Youth Girls Director for FRAM Soccer Club and has coached within the Beach FC ECNL platform, working with top-level youth players in highly competitive environments.

Delury also led teams to national success at the ECNL Regional League level, including a National Championship in 2022. His coaching experience reflects a strong emphasis on player development, competitive standards, and building cohesive teams.

Delury takes over the program as the Lions look to build on their recent success and continue competing for championships in the GSAC.
