RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Soka University women's soccer team scored five goals from four different players to earn a 5–1 win over La Sierra on Tuesday evening at La Sierra University.
Sabrina Benjamin got the Lions going in the 8th minute, opening the scoring for a 1–0 lead. La Sierra answered in the 12th minute when Brianna Lee converted an assist from Danae Burroughs to level the match at 1–1.
Soka took over from there.
Jonalynn Valles restored the lead in the 26th minute off an assist from Benjamin, and the Lions added a third in the 30th minute on an own goal from La Sierra to take a 3–1 advantage into the break.
The Lions kept the pressure on after halftime.
Kaylee Broome made an immediate impact off the bench, finishing a feed from
Sienna Gomez in the 77th minute just four minutes after entering the match.
Zariyah Smith closed out the scoring in the 88th minute, also netting shortly after coming on.
Soka was efficient throughout, out-shooting La Sierra 14–8 and putting 12 of its 14 shots on goal. Benjamin led the Lions with a goal and an assist, while
Elana Kawai and
Carly Becerra each recorded two shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Jazlynn Camacho made 4 saves in net, and La Sierra's Sophia Diaz finished with 5.
With the win, Soka improved to 4-2-3 overall and 3-1-1 in GSAC play.
