ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka University Lady Lions dropped their match against the Occidental College Tigers 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Lion's Den Soccer Stadium.
The two sides remained scoreless until the 41
st minute of the match, when Occidental capitalized on the fresh legs of Jasmine Davis, Chiara Serafini, and Alanna Leitner who came off of the bench just eight minutes prior. Serafini served a low, driven cross from the right flank into the box to Leitner. Leitner flicked her pass to Davis, who slotted her shot low and down the center of the goal for the Tigers' first goal of the game.
Despite several strong chances from the Lady Lions' Araceli Soto, Roxanna Ortiz, and
Caroline Goodwill in the second half of play, the Tigers thwarted any attacking chances created by Soka.
With 12 minutes remaining on the clock, the Tigers scored an insurance goal after Ashley Rodarte intercepted the ball at the top of the center circle. She dribbled toward goal, and hit her shot high and over the hands of Soka's
Ashley Bustamante, bringing the final score to 2-0. Â Â Â
"Today's game was a hard fought battle against a very good Occidental side," said Head Coach David McLeish. "Our team put their hearts into this game, and did their best. I couldn't ask for anything more from them."
