Lions Play to a 0-0 Tie Against Pioneers

LANCASTER, CA- The Lions played the Pioneers of the University of Antelope Valley to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon, bringing Soka's record to 0-4-3, 0-1-1.

Soka produced multiple scoring opportunities, outshooting the Pioneers 15-7. The Lions' Alex Tavarez led the team producing numerous scoring opportunities and craftily finding seams and creating chances for his teammates. Tavarez took seven shots on the day and put six of his looks on frame forcing Antelope Valley's goalkeeper Joshua Rojo to come up with big saves.

The Lions also generated commanding defensive efforts from Bryan Palpallatoc, Nicholas Bello, Noah Alexander, Chase Buchert, Josh Lee, and Eric Aparicio. Still, overall, the team's collaborative efforts and strong collective performance are what brought Soka their first point in Cal Pac Conference play.

"This was a game for the taking," said Head Coach Shawn Beyer. "We feel we should have come away with all three points. However, we are happy with the clean sheet and the effort from everyone. It's something to build on, and we will continue to work toward our goals."

Next, the Lions will return home to host Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.

Game Notes: Soka's Eric Aparicio made three saves on the day… yellow cards were shown to Soka's Adalid Oregon and Alex Tavarez and UAV's Josue Celio, Adrian Quintero, and Joseph Ramsey.
