ALISO VIEJO, CA- The Soka University Lions dropped their match against the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Eagles 2-0 on Thursday evening at the Lions' Den Soccer Stadium.
The Lions came out strong, controlled much of the possession during the match, and created multiple scoring opportunities, including seven corner kicks. However, Soka was unable to capitalize on their chances.
With a little over five minutes left in the first period, the Eagles intercepted a pass and slotted their shot low and into the goal to take the 1-0 lead. The Eagles later netted an insurance goal in the 75
th minute of play, bringing the final score to 2-0.
Soka's
Alex Tavarez led the Lions with four shots on the day, while
Jesus Cabrera had two looks at goal, and
Adalid Oregon and
Luis Barraza both had one shot on frame.
"It was a valiant effort from the team tonight," said Head Coach
Shawn Beyer. "The players gave everything, and for that, we are really proud. It was a hard-fought match and quite physical. We created some chances but needed to be more precise with the final ball. We must quickly turn our attention toward the match on Saturday where we will be going for all three points against Providence Christian."
The Lions look ahead to their 11:30 a.m. Cal Pac Conference match against Providence Christian College on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
