ANGWIN, CA- The Soka University Lions defeated the Pacific Union Pioneers 7-0 on Sunday afternoon, improving their record to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in Cal Pac Conference play.
Five different Lions scored in Sunday's route over the Pioneers, with senior
Yauri De Groot leading the charge and having his hand in six of Soka's seven goals. De Groot scored two goals (one unassisted, and one assisted junior
Linus Rueegger), and also assisted in four Soka goals, including fellow senior
Leo Ortiz's two goals, first-year
Jesus Cabrera's goal, and junior
Masahiro Otsuka's goal. De Groot tallied a combined eight points on the day.
Junior Jann Christian Sitchon also netted an unassisted goal with five minutes remaining in the match, giving the Lions their seventh and final goal of the game. Â
"We're always happy to get a win," said Head Coach Ian Eggleston. "It's a tough field to play on, especially if you're trying to knock it around, so we had to adjust a bit today. We're glad to be coming home with three points, and to start getting ready for a tough couple of games back in Northern California next weekend."
Â
The Lions remain on the road, and travel to Redding, CA to face Simpson University on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019. Kickoff is set for 4pm.
